Excelsior Board Track Racer

Uploaded by: geoffgagan
Video Description:
This is a bike that was built by Paul Brodie and is a running replica of a 1919 Excelsior Board Track Racing Motorcycle. The originals ran speeds over 120 mph, and this replica will do at least that. Peter Gagan, the president of the Antique Motorcycle Club of America acted as a consultant on the project and is seen introducing it a party thrown at Paul's house on July 8th, 2007.

The concept of ... ( 1 year ago by Godeau)
The concept of building a reproduction of a motorcycle where only a few pictures exist and those of only one side of the bike is overwhelming, to say the least. Members of the AMCA have watched with great interest and waited with baited breath for the completion of this motorcycle. My congratulations to all of those that participated in making this Excelsior a reality.

All I can say is that my dad (Pete Gagan) is like a kid at Christmas! He can't wait to show it off and is on his way to a few meets in the good ole U S of A over the next few weeks. Get out and see it while you can!!

It will be interesting to see if this reproduction machine will be given authentic status by the Antique motorcycle club of America (judged as an antique). If so, what does that say about the club?

Aren't you jumping to conclusions a bit ahead of time? At this point I think it is pretty cool to see a piece of history recreated.

I saw this bike at Legend of the Motorcycle. Wonderful project and great job! Only wish I could have been there to see and hear it run.

Fortunately, there are people in the AMCA (last abreviation is AMERICA) that cut short Gagan's attmpt to have this machine judged as an antique.

I detect some anger in your statement, oldjunk. Imagine, a couple of Canadians rebuilding a legendary American racing bike.

No, actually what is a horror is having a president of a club wanting to debase all legitimate machines by having a reproduction (FAKE) judged as the real thing.

Thank goodness there are a few guys like Pete that can recreate something like this that would otherwise be lost forever. I never thought I would see or hear a monster like this OHC Excelsior live again!

So old junk, or whatever, have some respect and give kudos where kudos are do, this coming from me, a Scout Sniper combat vet who loves america but also loves creativity and respects it from all countries.

I love that he recreated a piece of history, and am even more excited that it gets shown here, but honestly it should be shown and judge for what it is, a custom motorcycle. Many recreated "Cobras" are judged as custom cars, no matter how true they are to the original. That is not a slap in the recreators face at all, but all works of art should be judged for what they are, not what they represent or want to be. Either way, beautiful, no matter what country it came from.
Thanks boys! Pete ... ( 1 year ago by geoffgagan)
Thanks boys! Pete has been retired for quite a few years ago, and his passion for old bikes has been one that he has had since he was fourteen. It is something that transcends any borders or nationalities! The thing he loves the most is seeing other people enjoy all aspects of their own machines, and the love for these things that keeps the history alive.
Keep the faith out there!

A real tip of the hat to someone who has made the financial committment to build it as well as the builder himself and all involved. It should be in the Smithsonian

Geoff-g. Thanks for the video. Awesome stuff. Due to the lack of original video of these bad boys in action I had forgotten that the V-Twin straight pipes made some good noise. Most are static displays. Is this bike is a personal collection or on display somewhere? I roadrace some and my son rides dirt, he wa amazed at the sound this "bike" made. Many thanks! I know many men long past are smiling on this. God speed.
